What is Dental Tape?

Flossing plays an extremely important part in keeping your teeth as clean as possible. Along with brushing, flossing helps to maintain a good oral health regiment. Flossing removes food particles and other bacteria from between the teeth in areas that a brush may not be able to reach. If bacteria are not removed it can harden and turn into plaque. Plaque can then calcify and turn into tartar. Tartar is a hard substance that will need to be removed by a dental professional. Flossing also helps to remove particles from around the gum line, reducing the risk of gum disease.

The most common form of dental floss is string that can be waxed or un-waxed. There are also dental picks, water flossers, pre-threaded flossers and tiny brushes available for those that find the traditional dental floss hard to use.

There is another form of dental floss known as dental tape. Dental tape is easier to grip and wider that traditional floss, making it easier for some to use. This tape is made out of a flat, wide ribbon piece of nylon. It too can be waxed or un-waxed. It is also thinner that regular floss, making it easier to slip between and clean around the teeth. Dental tape may be good for people who have wide spaces between their teeth, because the tape allows for a broader amount of the surface to be covered at a time and makes cleaning more thorough. People with bridgework can benefit from dental tape.
