A three-unit bridge can be used to replace missing teeth in the mouth. The bridge is an artificial tooth that is connected on each end to crowns. The crowns are placed over the neighboring teeth to hold the bridge in place. These bridges can be made of gold, porcelain or porcelain fused to metal.
There are several advantages for having using a three-unit bridge to fix missing teeth problems. Some of these advantages include:
- Replacing teeth that are needed for biting and chewing.
- Assist in clear speech.
- Help prevent other teeth from shifting.
- They are supported by crowns that can serve as restorations for neighboring teeth that have damage or decay.
If you need to replace a missing tooth, a three-unit bridge can be functional, good-looking solution.
Getting a three-unit bridge placed in the mouth is not very difficult. The bridge is custom made for you in a dental laboratory. It may take two or more appointments to complete the bridge. Your dentist will numb the affected area to make you comfortable and they may need to use a rubber dam to protect the mouth and throat while working. The dentist will remove any decay from the tooth and shape it to support the bridge with a hand tool. Then a model of your mouth is made from an impression taken of the teeth. The lab will use this to create the bridge to fit precisely to your teeth and bite. While the bridge is being made a temporary bridge will be placed in.
During the next visit, the temporary bridge will be removed. Then your dentist will make sure that it fits properly in your mouth. Once they are sure it fits and the bite is correct, it will be cemented or bonded in place. You will now have a more perfect smile.
